Cat & Fiddle News! 2011 QRIS Grant: Cat & Fiddle Family Childcare was a QRIS Program Quality Improvement Grant recipient.
Funds were available for childcare programs to make upward progress on the QRIS rating scale.
Most of the funds received were used to install an outdoor play area which met the requirements of safety and quality
as listed in the FCCERS rating scale. Highlights of the 30' x 30' area are a 9" sand base surrounded by a 12" x 4" plastic border.
Inside is a dedicated sandbox area, climbing structure, wooden xylophone, gathering area and a 6' x 6' patio where the children can
get creative with a supply of large building blocks.
2010 Community Projects: Children and their families participated in a collection of food and supplies for Sherry's House in Worcester. This collection was tied in with a curriculum they were studying on their community and how children can help and make a difference. The food drive was organized by Phi Theta Kappa and we were glad to participate. Cat & Fiddle Childcare also made a large donation of new and used books for You, Inc., which was organized by Phi Theta Kappa. 2009 Community Projects: Children participated in their third annual collection of blankets for the local animal shelter. This collection was tied in with a curriculum they were studying on children and their pets.
Past Community Projects: To help Charlton celebrate the Town's 250th Anniversary, the children collected 250 dimes and donated them to Selectman Boria. This event took a few weeks to complete and tied in nicely with a curriculum lesson of counting and sorting mixed coins. Awards: Cat & Fiddle Childcare was recently awarded a (UPK) Universal Preschool Grant from the State Of Mass. This grant is offered to qualifying programs to purchase supplies, trainings, etc., targeted toward preschool-age children. Michelle met the following requirements for the grant; having a CDA Credential, providing Ages and Stages Assessments and working with a local Childcare Agency, which in our area, is Kids Unlimited. A small portion of the funds were used to attend an all day seminar, "Current, Best Strategies for Creating an Outstanding Preschool Program", presented by the internationally recognized instructor, Bev Bos.In 2008, Michelle was honored with an award from WAAEYC, the Worcester Area Association of Education for the Young Child for "Going above and beyond, to impact the lives of children and families" |
